1pm tide meant early ish start for Pointerz with forecast West with a little south – ruling out Bradfield. Loads on the green, all Felixstowe crew, kiters and locals. It was windy on arrival around 20+ knots, mid size kit with 6.5’s, plenty of water and wind consistent but lagoon didn’t look windy so rigged 7.8M with 130 Goya Freerace. Went to the beach / wind dropped and everyone coming in. B’lkicks. Rigged 8.5 with 145 Patrik Freeride and hung around for wind chatting. Tide now well in after 20 mins wind freshened just enough for everyone to scarper for kit! Sail off OK, so happy and went blasting in the lagoon – wind prob 15 knots. Great in there before tide breached. Everyone blasting up/down on the same flat bits, looking for speed. Wind was now going up / down, but big kit kept going with kites everywhere. It got too busy and the guys on the outside were going well, wind prob 18kts with swell around. Swainey said he was struggling but saw Ian and co planning so went outside and the wind freshened. Ran the coast down to the bird sanctuary, first time, great! Nice swell 10 mtrs of the coast running thru them for a mile or more. Most sailors including Mark were tanking it on the outside if you had big kit. Again the wind was in gusts, but planed mainly, doing battles with Neil, and a couple of RRD slalom guy + a cheeky kiter trying to over take me at 24kts! Never going to happen but had to sheet in mega hard to hold him off. Thankfully he gave up and backed off so I could relax and enjoy the run. He said later he nearly had me and that was true, but windsurfers can bear off rapidly, increasing speed much quicker.
Good day all round for me with all the Felixstowe regulars there, old Medano faces and the Slalom guys with shed loads of kites. TomTom Watch said 1250 calories for the session, so not bad.
